State legislatures have begun using a variety of artificial intelligence tools to assist with legislative processes, but many staff and legislators are still exploring how best to make use of these new resources. By unlocking AI technologies, staff and legislators alike can increase work efficiency, providing powerful new methods for information analysis and assistance with other legislative tasks.
From creating first drafts of reports using meeting minutes to advanced searches for information, AI applications can be leveraged to help save time and open pathways that allow for greater engagement with the legislative process.
In this webinar, learn about some of the ways AI tools can be used to assist with legislative work. The training will provide an overview of AI and the basics of prompt engineering. Demonstrations will specifically focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and NotebookLM for tasks related to research, summarization, compilation and document manipulation.

- Shaw Talebi
Shaw Talebi is an ex-Toyota data scientist and educator. He earned his Ph.D from the University of Texas at Dallas, where his research focused on novel AI applications to fields spanning neuroscience, environmental science and human performance. Driven by a passion for learning and a mission to make AI accessible to all, he founded a YouTube channel and technical blog that now inspire over 75,000 learners.

As a program principal in the Center for Legislative Strengthening, Will Clark works on issues related to legislative information technology and legislative oversight. Clark comes to NCSL with 10 years of experience working in state government, including two years with the Colorado General Assembly. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oregon and a master's in public policy from Oregon State University.
