Prediction markets are increasingly used to forecast elections, economic trends and policy outcomes, but their growth raises important questions for states. Companies argue these markets are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, not states, and therefore exempt from state gambling laws. This webinar will provide a Prediction Markets 101 and explore key policy and legal issues states should monitor as this space evolves. 

Speakers

• Sen. David Blount represents Mississippi Senate District 29, serving parts of Hinds County including Jackson, Byram and Terry. He serves as vice chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus, vice chairman of the Senate Education Committee and chairman of the Senate Gaming Committee, with a legislative focus on strengthening public education, expanding voter participation and supporting Mississippi’s armed forces and educators.
• Chris Cylke currently serves as senior vice president of government relations for the American Gaming Association (AGA). In this role, he leads AGA’s efforts to advocate for the gaming industry’s public policy objectives and to develop congressional champions. Additionally, Cylke manages AGA’s public policy committee and tax and financial policy working group.
• Brian Kane is the executive director of the National Association of Attorneys General and previously served more than two decades at the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, most recently as chief deputy attorney general. He holds degrees from the University of Idaho and Lewis & Clark Law School and is a U.S. Army veteran who served four years with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.
• Rep. Michael Meredith of Oakland is in his eight term representing Kentucky’s 19th House District, which includes Edmonson County and part of Warren County, and currently serves as chair of the House Banking and Insurance Committee. A former Brownsville city councilman, he has led major legislation on first responder protections, prescription drug costs, sports wagering and funding for a veterans nursing home in south-central Kentucky.
