The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will host a webinar with NCSL to discuss the FDA’s approach to food chemical safety.
In October 2024, as part of the agency’s reorganization, the new Human Foods Program was established to improve the FDA’s efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out its mission—to protect and promote the health and wellness of all people through science-based approaches to prevent foodborne illness, reduce diet-related chronic disease and ensure chemicals, both additives and contaminants that occur in foods from the growing or processing environment, are safe.
Deputy Commissioner of Human Foods, Jim Jones, will share with you more about the agency’s approach to food chemical safety and how the Human Foods Program is working toward strengthening FDA’s regulatory oversight of chemicals in the food supply through a science-driven approach to protect consumers from potential harmful exposure to chemicals in food.
